Intern Spotlight

If you've been to Bionic Body lately, you might have noticed a new face in the crowd. That face would be Texas born, but Colorado bred Kayla Martin, Bionic Body's new intern.

Kayla grew up being really active. When she was seven, her dad taught her how to snowboard, and she's been addicted ever since. But it wasn't just snowboarding that drew her in. She also played tennis, volleyball, basketball, and ran track. When she was in college Kayla got into running half marathons, as well as hiking (she has tackled most of the 14'ers in Colorado), and also became interested in health and fitness. After she took Health and Wellness and nutrition classes at Colorado State University, Kayla finally declared her major in Health & Exercise Science, with a concentration in Health Promotions.

Let's find out more about Kayla!

How did you end up as an intern at Bionic Body?

For my internship I knew I wanted to come to Southern California, because I’ve always been a California girl at heart. People would always tell me I belonged here, and when I would visit friends and family, I knew I wanted to move here at some point. My internship was the perfect opportunity to try it out. My advisor knew I wanted to go to California, and she said one of the former CSU students (Morgan) interned at Bionic Body this past summer, and that I should contact Kim and see if she would be interested. The rest is history! Kim was so sweet and willing to have me on staff for the semester, and I loved everything I read about the studio and was hooked.

What are you hoping to accomplish with your time at Bionic Body?

I want to learn as much as I can this semester from Kim and the other trainers, because they’re all so good at what they do. I’ve never been around such confident, knowledgeable, and nice people in my life! I hope I can walk out of this with more knowledge in training, nutrition, group fitness, people skills, and the business side of Bionic Body.

What are some of your career goals?

I would really like to be a trainer and group fitness instructor for awhile, and work my way up and gain the reputation of being a great trainer. I also hope to work with some high-end athletes. I would like to be a personal trainer as well as a nutrition advisor, and help people one on one with bettering themselves.

Two skills: I wish I could surf, like really surf and be good at it! Also, I wish I spoke French.

If there was a movie or song that describes your life, what would it be?

Tell me about a time you overcame a big obstacle or challenge in your life?

Moving out here! It was the scariest decision I’ve made yet leaving everything I know and coming out here knowing no one. I had to find someone to sublease my room, find a place to live out here, save up, and work a ton. It took a lot to make the move but I did it!

What are five quirks about you?

1. I'm left handed.

2. Obsessed with Indian food.

3. Double jointed in my shoulders and elbows.

4. I have a goal to live in Paris for a few years.

5. I secretly wish I was born in the Jane Austen era and love all of the kind of Pride and Prejudice movies.

What is the best vacation you've ever taken?

I’ve been fortunate enough to travel the world with my grandparents, and they’ve taken me to over 30 countries. I would say my favorites come down to three… Paris, Australia, and India. They’re all so different, but I would go back to all of those countries every year if I could! Paris for the art (and the food), Australia for the animals and surfing, and India for the people and history….and the food.
